[Music] hey pH and tears those of us who like our spirituality with a Twist so we're doing stuff on Karma mudra you know we like to do these little series I kind of think of them like a little class on Karma mudra a little introduction class yeah uh we're coming from different sources yeah yeah I agree Daniel yeah it is it is like that actually yeah so is supposed to just like a single episode because how much can you say in a single episode of a podcast or something right so um and so we're trying to go through and like be as authentic as we can with this we're kind of taking the Dr Nita stuff as we said before and kind of using him as a starting place but also trying to make this as real as possible for folks uh we're going through his misconceptions about um about Karma mudra we had a really nice episode last time where you kind of shared you know Andre one of your teachers thoughts on the differences or the similarities between Karma mudra and K Sutra so that was really cool yeah we had a deep Sutra dive for sure yeah and you shared a lot on that I think we might double back on that later on since we're talking about more of this kind of stuff sexuality and spirituality right and uh so I might like go through some of the Tibetan takes on those things too outside of just what Andre was sharing but that was pretty awesome and then we started really talking about Karma mudra and like really like kind of partner questions yeah you know I think Dr Nita phrases it like you know how do you hand like he kind of says like do you have to have a lot of Partners but I think the bigger deeper question I'm trying to get to is you know number of Partners I guess is one question but like who are your partners who are the right people to kind of try to connect with on these things and it really has a lot to do with I think episodes we did last year too where we were talking about relationships and spirituality you know so how do you how do you find people for these kinds of bonds and who do you try to build a bond like this with and so on so because you know as we've said many many times there's no sexuality out outside in any real sense outside of like some relationship aspect with it too if you're going to try to do a spirituality sexuality thing it's going to be with someone that you're going to have some kind of bond with right yeah yeah so um so I think I was gonna go through and just maybe try to um I thought maybe we I got my notes on this thing and I thought maybe we'll talk about levels of karma mudra and these kinds of things and then maybe we'll double back and try to get as real as possible Depending on time we might have a little bit of a shorter episode today short but sweet but you I think this is where the real action is in terms of like these um misconceptions that Dr n is bringing up I think this is where the stuff that you really want to talk through so this is probably G to be the one that'll like be the deepest one for us and we were talking about like qualifications last week and I think that's a really interesting subject matter so I was going back and you know we were listening to stuff I was listening to stuff commentary on the guage the guaj Tantra the secret assembly and they talk a lot about this issue so you know it was people who maybe share a similar contri initiation is always cool but so Eric just so I feel like we might have lost a plot line here a little bit so you're now you're going to go into talking about who you should practice with in terms of part searching for a partner to practice with yeah I think the re the realistics of like you know they they usually say qualifications which we started last week right what causes what is a qualified partner and then I thought you know maybe we'd finish up the conversation about like they have a little thing about levels of karma mudra which I think is really important okay and then maybe we'll try to get real about you know how do we apply this to our lives does that make sense to you yeah yeah okay okay cool I was just like kind of like hitting a little of the stuff we did last week because I thought it's maybe good to say it again because it relates to what we're g up talking about going forward so yeah um all right cool so you know there are town trck initiations so it could be someone you share that with right yeah you know if you get those things I think there's an to do that you know uh in the T world it's good to get those shared things kind of creates a spiritual bond between the people right you know as far as like s stuff goes the people that you have initiation with they sort of say you have a psychospiritual bond with them you know even it's like 100 people in the crowd you're bonded in some way with all those folks yeah right not that all of them would be appropriate Partners no but you know you do have those bonds and then they talk about like people who maybe share the interest and the passion right right people who want to learn you know um and then the big thing to talk about is like they use this phrase freedom from pettiness that we talked about last week right yes and that would be and I mean I was just gonna do it because we probably come back to it but like they Ed the word taboos here so not being governed by taboos or prudery or competitiveness or like major claas this is the Buddhist word for like negative emotions and mind States yeah possessiveness and jealousies and things like that so it's really kind of people who want to like exercise their compassion they want to learn they want to grow and evolve this is what you want yeah okay so that's all cool uh and then the other part is what we talked about is the special bond part which I think came at the end of the episode and I don't know if we like talked as much as maybe we could have but the idea that a lot of times when there's real deep things between people there's this intense resonance that will happen and I think we were talking about like even the subtle energies and the chakras and the soons of the two people will have like a resonance with one another and it's deep right and it kind of creates even like a like psychic powers between the people or psychic bonds between people you know where you feel the people from from afar and I imagine a lot of us probably had this experience you know well this is really deep between me and this person I can I can feel them you know you know and if you haven't had experience other people have for sure and you we can talk about that too right but it's deep right and so those are kind of the the the the magical aspects of that the deeper connections of the Shen so anyways it's a little bit of what we were doing last week just to go through it again because I think we're going to try to build on it yeah but the other thing I thought was really important for our podcast was to kind of maybe do a little bit about levels of karma mudra with the idea that it doesn't always have to be sexuality it can be other ways of connecting between people who may be drawn to one another and ways but it doesn't always have to be sexuality it can be other things and so they have this way of talking about like four levels of this or levels of connection and they kind of use these kind of images as metaphors it could be taken literally but it also can just be taken as like it can be levels of connection so sometimes they'll talk about like in levels of kudra they'll talk about like two people smiling at one another is an energetic exchange it's just the people you have positive energetic exchanges with that's a kind of a Karma mudra in a way right and I bring it up because I think we're going to end up talking about this in our cult and maybe in some ways that's ways that are the most appropriate for people to be together in the culture right because it's not a tantric culture right and you might have to connect with people in ways that are more culturally appropriate right so they kind of give that as a as a thing or maybe people hold hands you know and that's a way of having a connection and they use sometimes they'll say kissing and then they'll eventually talk about the sexual embrace but they're saying you know these are levels of intimacy and it's kind of a met for right but you're really talking about like yeah it can be it doesn't always have to be like you know sexuality you know in that way it can be subtler versions of how people connect with one another that still can be very powerful and given the situations of people's lives or what's appropriate between them that might be the right way to do it you know I think that's interesting you know I don't remember where I read it Eric but I read it some in some text and I apologize for not remembering off the top of my head but I haven't talked about it for a long time but I read I read so those four levels in in Reverse are how beings of uh let's say less physicality connect with each other oh that's true too I think right so that like beings of of gross form like like us we connect physical first right yeah this is how we do our bonding and then it's the um holding holding of hands you know or you know or kissing I think and then it's holding of hands but then the highest level is to just is to be able to look at someone and connect you know energetically psychically with only your Gaye yeah I'm smiling because it's so interesting like a number of things pop in my mind they talk about that almost like we know in like Buddhist cosmology there's like different levels of spiritual beings or something like that right which what you're getting at and like in the formless Realms exactly you know like they just look at they just look at each other or they just energetically sense each other and it's like [...] a orgasmic explosion right because they're so they're so subtle you know their energies transfer so easily right yeah yeah yeah now that's a I've heard that too yeah yeah and you go down and you get to our level and yeah we have to do Boogie yeah we got to like we're like we're Newtonian physics over here Eric you know we're yeah they're all Quantum each other out yeah exactly mind organizing each other in in the formless Realms yeah that sounds fun and uh we're like okay well you know yeah we have to like yeah work harder we that's that's a very harder end that's a very PG way of putting it yes we have yeah I was like figure out what's the right way to say it yes we have to work much harder yes yes yes potentially longer um yeah and maybe wetter um so but you know like you also can look at it like levels of Tantra too I think this sometimes comes up because I got those four levels of Tantra you know action and performance and yoga and highest yoga so I think sometimes they talk about it that way you know they're always making those kinds of correlations and I think guess you know if you want to say the way that one works it's how much you identify as being divine right or or as a you know you you believe in your inherent Enlightenment you know so the more you believe in your inherent Enlightenment it kind of correlates with those highest yoga tantas which is a lot of our home base right yeah yeah um but we can incorporate other Traditions the other thing that made me smile because I had it in the notes was I I'm always reminded of one of my favorite things to talk about with this kind of stuff which is room and chams of TBR right where you know it's very moving because the tradition ultimately as we said before who knows if they were lovers or not I don't know you know but the way the tradition talks is they weren't but they communicated like through their eyes right and those meditations where you're just kind of looking into the eyes of the other person and we know from our ch's medical thing the whole idea is that the spirit communicates through the eyes and that way shows itself through the eyes so strongly and you know that whole meditative practice of just looking eye to eye which I know you've done with people before too right ey gazing is such trip I because yeah it's trippy MH if you look at somebody long enough someone's going to cry yeah yeah yeah someone's gonna cry and then also like the person's face starts to change that's true you know their eyes are very stable and still but their face starts to change and only again I don't have a ton of experience with it I probably practiced it 10 times you know on different Retreats uh the people who I've practiced it with who whose face did not change were deeply practiced deep meditated oh interesting okay did not change stay the same interesting almost scarier at some point they're just there you know but but they're probably in a state you know they touch mahamudra you know yeah yeah I don't want to go too deep because we haven't given you know context for that term yet but um means it's like the Great Seal and that's probably hitting like the fundamental aspect of your own spirit than the pure nature of reality or some phrases like that right sure yeah like you're rocking it out in the deepest parts of your own soul and you're also tapping into the the Divine energy all around you in some way right so you're you're in a special State you're in a special State yeah there you go I mean I I think the thing for me okay let me get Dr Nita's version of this too yeah please so he kind of like changes these words a little bit but it comes to a similar thing but I still four levels but I think it really talk about the flexibility you can have with this right that there's other ways and I I I think for our podcast I really wanted to emphasize that because you know again like as we talked about before we're not a Buddhist tantric culture so you kind of figure out like how can people connect with one another in ways that will be culturally available to them right it's not a small question so we maybe we'll continue on with it but uh um foreshadowing but you know the thing would be you know Dr Nita he takes these four levels he frames him a little bit different but you know again he he leads with like looking and then he says watching so I know about that word but you know the looking at the other person which also gets into the eye gazing gazing yeah and you know when you're really connected with another person just the looking at them is a lot of times like very powerful we've all had that experience I'm sure yeah you know even if it's someone who's close to your heart and you're just sitting across the dinner table and you really look at each other it's powerful yeah I mean how many how many songs are written about the you know the glance from across the room One Enchanted Evening from uh like old school musicals you know I see the stranger across the crowded room and our eyes meet right um but I yeah I think it's true I think in the people that you can and have real powerful things with either across the room or with people that you know and you realize wow we're really connecting in some profound way yeah you know and I I I wanted to like just bring that up because that's a way for us to do versions of karma mudra you know I think it's an important idea yeah yeah and then they bring up like talking and laughing and that's a way of connecting between people right your karma mudering in a way there right you know you share your thoughts you share your ideas you share maybe even the deepest things in your Shen and you you share the most intimate parts of yourself and you laugh and you enjoy and you know that's a a deep intimacy right and you can have that as your karma mudra right maybe for you and that person that's the right way to do it right and then they talk about hugging or just touching so like some physical contact but obviously you know that could be relatively speaking more platonic even in ways right you know it doesn't have to be you know always full sexuality and then they finally get to sexuality overall yeah so it kind of he does it in those four levels and I thought well that's interesting he's like re he's phrasing it slightly different than ways maybe I've heard it but it's the same concept obviously but I like hearing both of those because it kind of opens up different ways of thinking about what this could what this could mean between you and another person yeah this has nothing to do with anything but it's just odd do you remember Christian Leon leer the basketball player yes I do okay he was if you don't know who he is he's like hated he is hated because he was the the the guy who just who was a college star and he was definitely a college star I think he played for Duke great college player for Duke yeah yeah and he ended up being on the Dream Team over Isaiah Thomas or a large number of other NBA superstars that that could have and should have been there but for some reason I don't know why he was there they had the idea like the way so my son and I watched a documentary about him oh got it okay so it was uh I hate Christian ler was the name of the yes yes yes yes and it was like the sports channel ESPN you know in the states if you're not from the states and you don't know anything about this they put this thing out and it's kind of a fascinating thing to watch because I always thought he was like an [...] he's not and he's partially but not really he's actually pretty good dude maybe was a dick on the court or something you know he did a couple of things that were questionable but you know he's like a 19y old 20-y old kid you know right um but there was a crazy like part of the the documentary um where like his best friend was another basketball player on the team and he was this white guy and then there was this friend was this black man who was another player on the team I'm forgetting his name now I don't think he ever made it to the pros or anything but they were just really good friends and um I didn't know anything about the story but they were so close and they said Christian lner they'd sometimes be walking through the campus and they're two straight dudes and Christian ler would like hold his hand like he really loved this guy you know and uh you know and they would they have physical contact and I guess there was a whole thing about maybe them being gay or something came out because it was the early 90s and there was so much homophobia right and so he'd be in arenas and they'd be chanting like you know uh slurs at him right which we won't repeat obviously you know well the crowds would be chanting you know and uh I like this a part of the story I never knew but I it it hit me like wow that's a deep bond between two people you know and they're both like CIS straight guys you know and there wasn't anything ever between them but I thought well that's look at that Bond you know and that's its own SE sense of kind of a a Karma mudric bond between two people if you want to frame it that way and I I guess I want to do that for the podcast you know okay I want to make this as big as possible does that make sense to you or no that's fair no I don't know about Christian ler the example but it just hit me you know and uh I mean when they were talking to the guy afterwards it's like you know 20 years after the adventure or whatever it is and they was like yeah they were just deeply deeply bonded dudes you know so um it's a spectrum you know yeah yeah um anyways I think you know I do agree with me the whole concept though I'd like to cast this for our podcast big you know so so if you think about it way we'll talk about the sexuality aspects just to get I don't mean to cut you off sorry but like talk about the sexuality aspects but also make it hopefully inclusive all kinds of contacts between people so you think about like levels of connectivity right in in our society just on a you know we're just you know we're talking about Karma muder but we're also talking about a partnership right and so you have the most subtle level which is the which is what we could say like an energetic connection right which which is embodied in in you how you see someone right so we're talking about eye gazing but that's that's a practice we could say it from a personal perspective is your ability how do you see them right and how do they see you and then that Dynamic vice versa very subtle because it it has an effect on you when you see that person it affects you how you see that person it affects you they say that like um it's important for couples who are together for long periods of time to go out reason being is that it's it it literally changes the way that you see them when you see them in different lighting yeah yeah yeah restaurants or wherever it's important for you to change those angles you know so this goes to the gazing part the sort of um you know when I when I think of like mind body speech you know this would be kind of like the Mind part you know yeah yeah um and then obviously the speech part comes from the sharing of one's own self you know so you're connecting through the the eyes of the window to the soul so you're connecting to the windows first but then I guess maybe the chimney is kind of the the throat area I guess maybe that's a little bit of a saucy reference well the okay the window of heaven right yeah so you're but the Chinese medical thing yeah yeah but you're but you're expressing your you're expressing yourself via the vibrations in your vocal cords right and so you're allowing yourself to be even a little bit more vulnerable than just via eye contact act and you know when people speak they change the vibration of the room yes with the contents of their vocal cords and the air that's behind them but also with the contents of what it is that they are saying and how they are saying it right this is this is charisma or this would be uh sexy talk or this would be jokes that cause people to laugh so what it's saying is that your speech the way in which you communicate can affect another person now even a little bit more deeply than the Gaze of in a perception of that person right and then the last one we'll just put it you know the the hugging and the sexuality we just put it together and we'll call it physical contact you know being the body portion is the tactile sense that's the most gross level sense but when you put those three things simultaneous you have physical contact that is being spoken about in in a in a we'll call it a loving way while making eye contact you know that I mean essenti you're in uh you're in a meditative practice at this point because you have a tactile sense you have a vocal sense and you have a visual sense so all of our the ways in which that we we use the the kind of Technology of attention grabbing all all three levels are are being are being controlled or are being used or are being I don't want to say manipulated but I guess you could say that this way as well and so you're you're able to kind of bring yourself into the moment I don't want to say into the now because that's you know like whatever new Agy kind of but essentially you have to be present you know if you're going to do any of these practices and definitely all of these practices are helping you to come back into the moment anyways you know the the the the now the is the ever present right is the infinite time is is always constantly happening so um yeah there you go there's my dissertation yeah yeah I love it and so if you go back and you think like okay you're also talking about maybe someone person where you really have like that karmic resonance with them too yeah right and then you know how do you again there's weird language how do you utilize that how do you make that work to help people grow and evolve and change right you know because if you really get to the bond between two people you were talking about like residences and with who they are right and if you also get to those other kinds of qualifications between two people you share passion you share interests you share a desire to know and understand those are really powerful relationships you yeah um okay so cool I so I mean I like it this way I think you're cool with it to I like the idea of framing it like okay it can be sexuality it can be intercourse but it also can be other aspects and we'll call that Karma mudra too for the point of the show like I'm perfectly willing to call whatever Shams and roomy if they were eye gazing I think that's a Karma mudra practice you know right and I think it's like uh it's really important because if we should I don't know how much time we're gonna have to cover all the stuff that could be talked about in this but maybe we'll scratch the surface in the last few minutes we have together right but it's a big deal if you try to get real about it because it takes us back to our episodes we have before a little bit I was thinking about this we did a lot of relationship episodes and we were talking about exclusivism and uniqueness right yeah yeah theal conversation yeah the S paral conversations and I I do totally dig her terminology on that I was giving it a little bit of a relisten over the past week you know and um I like I like that thing right so when we talked about it we we kind of did all of our es estrop parel episodes and we saw them as sort of like different orientations right maybe there's different kinds of orientations of people some people might be more exclusivist which in Esra parel speak would mean probably what more people think about how relationships are going to be in certainly American culture right they're monogamously exclusive right and that exclusivity is one of the most important things in the bond between the two people it's just how people think about relationship right yeah and you know what gives it meaning the way she says for an exclusiveness minded person is the fact that those things are only shared between those two people and that carries very high value and meaning for someone with that if we want to say orientation right right where a uniqueness minded person is more like less that's not as important for them so you know people who might be more poly or more whatever would certainly fit into this but people who have less sensitivity on these points yeah yeah and for them what it really is is it's the specialness of the bond between the two people that's what they emphasize and even if it doesn't have that same level of absolute exclusivity wherever those walls are for different people that doesn't matter as much for them what matters for them is there's a special resonance a special meaning a special connection between me and this other person and that sort of that's what's the important thing so she kind of defines it in those two kinds of orientations towards the world so I know you have anything El you want to add on that you think that's sufficient to cover it but the thing that got me in this and I mean we'll scratch the surface of it now and then to be continued so a little bit of a a beginning and then a cliffhanger maybe as we go further with this but you know it's just is a very exclusiveness culture so American culture it is the Baseline yeah it just is you know and you know for me trying to understand how to present these things to people and how to get the most value out of it and also to think about for myself you know is you know the tantric cultures that we're talking about in the theory of how they're thinking about the world and life aren't that way they're not exclusiveness models they're not exclusiveness versions of reality they're uniqueness versions of reality so I mean I think that's just something that you have to realistically talk about and then we'll also talk about what it means to do this from a more exclusiveness mindset but I mean I think that to my mind I think that just sort of has to be said right and I've kind of wrestled with this a little bit I'm curious your thoughts on it too but I mean I again I don't mind being the voice of uniqueness on this podcast that's totally cool with me I'll take on that role I'll be you know the person talking about this thing I'm fine with that um and as I thought about it for myself I thought yeah well you know on the one hand this can be considered like an orientation brand get almost like uh you know heterosexuality or homosexuality or something it's an orientation you know it's just how people are but on the other hand there is like a kind of a weird cultural kind of question with this because it isn't really like a freedom of choice thing within the culture this is an exclusivist culture like right down to the very roots and so that creates a lot of interesting questions of what you think yeah I'm sorry didn't you have more you want to say about that this is an exclusivist culture and I just you know we did those femininity episodes so long ago now you know probably been two years i' I imagine a little bit more definitely two plus years since we had them with with Joanie and everything else Joanie Osborne yeah and um I just I remember reading that book if God was a woman and she wasn't a great writer but she was a very good researcher you know very good researcher and she brought up a lot of different things in that book and it's worth the read I'd have her on actually maybe I'll reach out to her she's she was the book was again not EXT not not super well written but written well enough that you could totally read it and whether you want to agree with everything that she says in there or not she just takes stuff and Spins it on its head which gets you to think in such a different way so I'm just wondering like is the exclusivist mindset one that is native to the culture one that is and I don't mean culture as in like Western culture I mean Humanity's culture because there's so many large trends that occur right most relationships are like they call it the seven-year itch right yeah because it's enough time to like meet somebody Court have a child raise it through infancy basically and then now that people are moving in you know what I'm saying well will Reich if you go back to our Reich episodes he just thought that's how it was I don't know if I agree with him but he just thought oh yeah that's a thing it's about a seven-year thing yeah you know and then people kind of burn out with each other yeah you know so he wrote that into his whole Theory I'm not saying I agree or any of us have to agree but he went there yeah he went there so I'm just wondering if if some of the exclusivist nature of the culture is for practical purposes obviously you know it's easier when you have pairs that just paired forever um or if it has something to do maybe slightly more nefarious now I'm not going to be conspiratorial or whatever I'm going to just say that like it definitely is part you cannot remove it from my mindset that this culture still views women as property because it's it's still culturally acceptable and normal for women to take the husband's last name right that's kind of normal it's less Norm it's it's more accepted to do the hyphenated thing now right but you know it wasn't that long ago that we were trading you know you okay you take seven goats I'll give me your daughter you know what I'm saying like yeah they were bought and sold as property so like that that exclusivist mindset I don't know for me might just be like a gangster Twist on the having people as property sort of Ideal right that you would shame it taboo it for so hard as a cultural thing that then it then pervades the entirety of the thing so that now everybody aderes to it without anybody having to be conditioned we condition we we recondition ourselves to sort of buy into it does that make sense yeah I got like a million things to say about this so it's gonna be a hooping episode next time yeah the thing about it was we did that kind of weird episode where I came out on my retreat and I felt all like SAS vati the Buddhist goddess of like knowledge and art and culture and I like felt like so like you know contact with her and I kind of told the anecdote about my son and we were in like this tourist town in Michigan and they had like property of Bill written on the of the short shorts and I was like okay that's a property thing you know so it fits in exactly what you're talking about it's something you have to think about you know whether you're exclusiveness or uniqueness I want to we'll explore that maybe next week because either way you have to wrestle with whatever that means to you you know I mean I think you have to think about that even if you are an exclusiveness person you don't want to go in with the idea that this other person is your property on any level so whatever that is I think that has to be gotten rid of you know yeah the funny part with as SAR fonti um I was you know this has been a kind of had a weird impact in my life we'll share about it more next week because it's been a funny thing to to be a tantric Zen dowy minded person in this culture I'm gonna think differently you know yeah that's a personal part but yeah that like what pissed Faris vti off so much and it like it was a funny feeling like I said in the episode because it wasn't me she was pissed off about what you're talking about the whole property thing she thinks that that's bad you know know and I said that a million times in an episode I'm not going to say it anymore but I was kind of trying to channel it like that is a deep problem so we're gonna have to you know that's going to have something you have to think about I think no matter what your maybe your orientation is you know SC we'll have to maybe share more about that next week as best we can and our own experiences but like Screen through that so you start thinking I I have to get whatever that is out right and that extends that extends it doesn't matter I mean that that's your Orient that's your your view of relationships that has nothing to do with your sexual orientation you could take that exact same view and be gay by Les whatever it doesn't that doesn't matter it's still that's just you know we're choosing flavors of coffee but what we're saying is like yeah maybe coffee is not the best thing for you uh yeah no offense to Coffee drinkers but actually yes I got I got it right here oh there you go but I I I do decaf okay okay but you know it's still yeah it's a vice yeah well anyways that's what we got we gotta leave it we gotta leave it on a cliffhanger for today leave it on a cliffhanger but I think I think we got to the The Sweet Spot in this I think it's really something interesting to think about so that probably be next episode so we'll open this up next time so if you found uh today's uh information uh enlightening and enticing and possibly even entertaining then you know exactly where to uh get more of this uh same bat Time same bat Channel although we you know post at different times because I'm a human being and I have other [...] to do and so I try to post regularly I'm definitely behind so by the time you guys hear this I'm probably going to put a bunch of episodes out all the once uh and we'll flood the airwaves and then you guys can uh consume it at your leisure uh and as you're doing so remember that uh like
